Our Philosophy
Our program supports children’s curiosity, creativity, problem solving, resilience and real-world knowledge and skills.
At Narnia we know that children do not learn in isolation, so we approach learning as a collaborative relationship between teachers, educators, children and families. At Narnia we believe children are powerful learners, active citizens, thinkers and theorisers – this is at the heart of our early childhood curriculum. We’ve designed our indoor and outdoor spaces to ignite imaginations and nurture healthy minds and bodies. Learning through play is an integral part of our education program. Our educators skillfully enrich and extend on children’s play experiences, creating a learning program that is tailored and meaningful for your child.
At Narnia Kindergarten we feel the early years of a child’s life are a time of incredible growth and opportunity. It is important that everything a child experiences, becomes a valuable learning opportunity that will form the basis of their development, learning, and wellbeing, for the rest of his or her life.
Our environment privileges self-directed play and open-endedness. It is dynamic, engaging and open to many possibilities; flexible and responsive to the spontaneous and unexpected, safe, but can offer physical challenge and support children’s healthy risk taking. We are connected with nature and provide moments for exploration and opportunities for creative and visual arts by having open access to a wide range of resources.
Our social environment is inclusive and caring to support all children’s active participation, is organised collaboratively with children, reflects the lives of the children, families and community, celebrates the richness of diverse cultures and traditions, promotes shared learning and democratic decision making, and is relaxed and comfortable and play rich. Children are encouraged to explore and discover the wonders of nature, respect and care for our grounds and gardens, and native wildlife, encompass sustainability and be environmentally minded in our Kindy community.
As part of each child’s individual learning journey we want their Kindy experience to be fun and we want this to be a positive transition from home to school. Each child has a strong connection to their family and their community and we value this by working closely with families, sharing insights and information. Narnia is a place in which we learn and grow collaboratively. A space where children and families feel welcome, secure, respected, safe and supported to explore and create.
Your child’s learning journey is shared with you via conversations with your child’s educators and through written documentation in your centre, whether it be through each child’s individual learning portfolio or through StoryPark.
